Coravin Pure Sparkling CO2 Capsules: How Many Uses Per Capsule?

If you own a Coravin Sparkling system, you already know the magic of pouring champagne or prosecco by the glass without losing the fizz. But a common question among enthusiasts is: how many glasses can you actually pour from a single Coravin Pure Sparkling CO2 capsule? Understanding capsule capacity helps you plan your tastings, manage costs, and avoid running out mid-pour.

In this guide, we’ll break down the expected usage per capsule, factors that affect how long a capsule lasts, and practical tips to get the most out of every CO2 capsule. Whether you’re a home entertainer or a professional sommelier, knowing your capsule’s limits ensures your sparkling wine stays perfectly effervescent from the first glass to the last.

How Many Pours Per Coravin Pure Sparkling CO2 Capsule?

Each Coravin Pure Sparkling CO2 capsule is designed to provide approximately 120 pours of 5-ounce glasses. That’s a substantial amount—enough to serve around 20 standard 750ml bottles of sparkling wine, assuming you pour 6 glasses per bottle. This makes the capsule an economical choice for frequent sparkling wine drinkers.

It’s important to note that the exact number of pours can vary based on your pouring technique and the size of your pours. If you prefer smaller tasting pours (2-3 ounces), you’ll get more uses per capsule. Conversely, larger pours will reduce the number of servings. The key is to pour efficiently, holding the system at the correct angle to minimize CO2 waste.

• Approximate 120 pours of 5 oz each per capsule
• Equivalent to about 20 bottles of sparkling wine
• Actual count depends on pour size and technique

Factors That Affect Capsule Life

Several factors can influence how long a Coravin Pure Sparkling CO2 capsule lasts. First, the pressure in the bottle: when you insert the needle and press the trigger, CO2 flows into the bottle to replace the wine you pour. If the bottle is already under pressure (as with sparkling wine), the system uses less CO2. However, if you’re using the system on a still wine (which is not recommended), you’d use more gas.

Second, the frequency of use matters. Each time you pour, you use a small amount of CO2. If you pour multiple glasses in quick succession, the capsule depletes faster. Third, proper storage of the capsule—keeping it at room temperature and out of direct sunlight—helps maintain optimal pressure and ensures you get the full number of pours.

• Bottle pressure: sparkling wines require less CO2 replacement
• Pour frequency: more pours = faster depletion
• Storage conditions: keep capsules at room temperature

Tips to Maximize Your CO2 Capsule Usage

To get the most out of each Coravin Pure Sparkling CO2 capsule, follow these practical tips. First, always ensure the needle is fully inserted into the cork before pressing the trigger. A proper seal prevents gas leakage and ensures efficient CO2 use. Second, pour at a steady pace—don’t hold the trigger longer than necessary. The system is designed to deliver the right amount of gas for a standard pour.

Third, consider using the Coravin Sparkling system with the included Coravin Sparkling stoppers for opened bottles. These stoppers allow you to preserve the remaining sparkling wine for up to two weeks, reducing the need for frequent pours and saving your CO2. Finally, keep track of how many pours you’ve used by noting the capsule’s pressure indicator, if available, or simply by counting your pours.

• Ensure a tight seal to prevent gas waste
• Pour steadily without over-triggering
• Use Coravin Sparkling stoppers to extend wine life

Comparing Capsule Life Across Coravin Systems

While the Coravin Pure Sparkling CO2 capsule is specific to the Coravin Sparkling system, other Coravin systems use argon capsules. For example, the Timeless Three+ uses argon to preserve still wines, and each argon capsule provides about 15 glasses. In contrast, the Pure Sparkling CO2 capsule offers a much higher yield due to the different gas and the nature of sparkling wine preservation.

If you own multiple Coravin systems, it’s helpful to know the differences. The Coravin Sparkling system is designed exclusively for sparkling wines, while the Timeless Three+ is for still wines. By understanding the capsule capacities, you can budget accordingly and ensure you always have the right gas on hand for your wine collection.

• Pure Sparkling CO2: ~120 pours
• Argon capsules: ~15 glasses per capsule
• Choose the right system for your wine type
